Wonder why Ohana Artist Bernadette Plazola named her special custom concert ukulele "Daniela"? Read her personal, heart-warming story below to find out.
"Back in 2019, my life went through some drastic changes. Through it all, the ukulele community saw what was happening in real time and came through for me in the most incredible way. They helped me get back on my feet and reminded me that I wasn’t alone.
When I announced that I was pregnant with my daughter, that same community surrounded us with love once again, showering us with gifts from all over the world. When she was born, we faced some scary moments, and the ukulele family still showed up for us —this time not just for me, but for us as a family.
So when the lovely people at Ohana approached me with the idea of creating a custom ukulele inspired by my journey, I wanted it to represent that deep sense of community. We talked about how to make it special. They suggested the beautiful Koa wood, I suggested the turquoise embellishments, and shared my love of flowers, but the final result absolutely took my breath away. The artistry and craftsmanship were beyond anything I could have imagined.
When it came time to name the ukulele, the choice was easy. Daniela. Named after my sweet daughter.
